Play ball! These were the words that were on everyone's lips as the basketball season opened in October. With practically the same line-up as last year our boys started their basketball season by winning their first game from Jamestown and their second from Pitchin. Then the teams' luck changed and they were defeated by Osborne and Bellbrook. Bowersville and Bryan were the next teams who were defeated by the Cedarville quintet. Thus went the season for the boys, first winning and then losing. Every game brought hopes that we would win just one more game and be the leading team of the county.
For the first game in the tournament Cedarville drew Bellbrook and although C.H.S. played hard, when the final whistle blew the Bellbrook squad had the larger number of points.
Even though the total of the Red and Whites' points did not equal that of the opponents, we are justly proud of the boys for the fine spirit and sportsmanship they have shown. We know it is difficult for the loser to be the best sport and for this reason the boys deserve a great amount of credit for helping to win the sportsmanship trophy.
None of the team graduated this year, so we are looking forward to a winning season next year.
Boys qualifying for basketball letters this year were Robert Reed, Charles Jones, Ned Brown, Justin Northup, Harold Hanna, Donald Fields, Neil Hartman, John Buckner, Otis Shaw, John McCallister. The managers Vincent Regio and Elton Frame were given managers' letters. These awards were made at the Athletic banquet which was given in honor of the Cedarville High School basketball teams.
